The runaway missile

A missile has been launched and is heading straight for a target building, but it is discovered that the target is actually the building next door. At the last instant the computer tries to change course, but the original target is destroyed. Too late.

When a defenseman is headed for a loose puck along the boards, and the forechecker knows exactly where the D is headed, the collision is imminent after a certain point in time. If the D turns his back and faces the glass, the read-react time will often be too short for the forward to change course.

Checking from behind is going to occur, no matter how many stop signs are on the back of jerseys. We have launched a runaway missile in the last few decades, telling young players to dump the puck, skate full speed, and hit opponents into the boards.
